This event aimed to equip refugees with the skills and knowledge necessary to overcome challenges, build resilience, and achieve self-sustainability. The program focused on understanding mindset concepts, developing character, and reprogramming the mind to foster positive change.
Objectives
Assess the Mindset issues among youth in Nakivale through understanding “concepts of mindsets”.
Guide youth towards self-discovery and passion through character development and mind reprogramming.
Empower youth with life skills, mindset change, and entrepreneurial leadership skills.
Terminology
Mindset:
A mindset is a set of beliefs and attitudes that shapes how you think, feel, and behave. It influences your worldview and actions.
Change mindset:
A change mindset is the belief that it’s possible to improve your life by making different choices. It involves being open to new ideas and ways of doing things.
Fixed mindset:
People with a fixed mindset believe that their abilities are unchanging. They tend to focus on what they know and avoid challenges. They may see failure as a limit to their abilities.
Growth mindset:
People with a growth mindset believe that their abilities can be developed through effort and learning. They are more open to challenges and see them as opportunities for growth. They are more likely to persevere in the face of setbacks.

Participants identified characteristics of both fixed and growth mindsets, such as "I can either do it or I can't" (fixed) and "Failure is an opportunity" (growth).

Participants explored common mindset issues, such as perceiving yourself as temporary, having a "no capital" mindset, and being influenced by gender roles and tribal issues.

Participants discussed how mindset can affect various aspects of life, including resilience, stress management, and overall well being.

Participants learned about activities that can help improve mindset, such as embracing change, setting goals, surrounding oneself with positive people, and cultivating gratitude.

Participants recognized the need for more training on mindset issues to help youth understand their potential.
